Ballroom Dance Classes in Dudley
A waltz you can actually do at the next family wedding, and a foxtrot that doesn’t involve counting out loud. Pop your name on the list at no cost; when there are enough newcomers to fill a floor, we book a room and start. After that you pay £9 for each class you come to.

The ballroom class for people who’ve never done any
The Black Country already has ballroom clubs with long-standing regulars, and they’re great if you know your natural turn from your reverse. This list is for the people who don’t — adults who have watched it on television for years, or who have a wedding coming up, and would like a room where everybody is starting at the same point.
That shared starting line is the whole idea. We gather names first, and when there are enough to make a sociable floor we hire a room somewhere convenient for the people who signed up, whether they’re in Kingswinford, Rowley Regis, Coseley or the middle of Dudley. Nobody walks in to find a room of experts already mid-quickstep.
Once the class is up and running it’s £9 on the night for the session you attend. There’s no club to join, no annual subscription and no book of tickets to use up. The value is in the teaching and the company rather than the price tag, and you only pay for what you actually come to.
What the first ballroom weeks cover
Shaped by the room, week by week
The hold
Building a frame with your partner that feels steady and connected without anybody gripping for dear life.
A waltz box
The rise and fall of a simple closed change, counted in threes until it starts to swing on its own.
Walking the foxtrot
Slow, slow, quick, quick — gliding forwards and backwards along the line of dance.
A taste of Latin
A few weeks in, a cha-cha or rumba basic to shake the legs out between the smooth dances.
The teacher decides week by week what the room is ready for. Some groups want to perfect a waltz before moving on; others are itching for something quicker. There’s no syllabus being marched through and no pressure to be tested on it — just steady progress you can feel from one class to the next.
Couples are welcome to stay together if they prefer, and singles are paired up and rotated so they get plenty of dancing. Leading and following are both taught properly, and anyone can learn either role. It’s a friendly way to spend an evening, and a surprisingly good workout for the calves.
What you spend on ballroom here, set out plainly
£9 on the nightpay at the door each time — nothing monthly, nothing automatic
£9Free to joinit works like a vote — enough names and we hire the room
freeNone soldnothing to use up, nothing quietly expiring, nothing to cancel
noneWe don’t sell, lend or supply ballroom shoes, so for the early weeks just bring your own smart shoes with a smooth, non-grippy sole and a small heel if you’re used to one — the teacher will talk you through proper dance shoes only if you decide to keep going.
That buys one full ballroom session on the evening you attend. You won’t find a club subscription, a yearly fee or a ticket book with an expiry date.
Why these two joined
We’ve got our daughter’s wedding next summer and I refused to shuffle round the floor again. Being in a group of fellow beginners took all the embarrassment out of it.
I lost my husband a couple of years ago and wanted something sociable. I came alone and danced with half a dozen lovely people. It’s the highlight of my week now.
Which ballroom dances do complete beginners learn first here?
Usually the waltz and the social foxtrot, because they teach hold, posture and moving together. A Latin basic such as the cha-cha tends to join in once the group has its confidence.
Is this ballroom class suitable if I’ve danced before?
It’s aimed at newcomers and people who haven’t danced for many years. If you’re already confident, you may find a more advanced local club suits you better, and that’s perfectly fine.
Can my partner and I stay together all ballroom class?
Yes, couples can stick together if they’d rather. The teacher does rotate the room for anybody who is happy to swap, which helps singles get plenty of time on the floor.
Could a few ballroom weeks rescue our wobbly first dance?
They’ll give you hold, timing and confidence, which makes any first dance easier. For a choreographed first dance to a specific song, a private wedding lesson is a better fit.
Do the ballroom lessons involve any competitions or medal tests?
No. This is a social class for enjoyment, with no competitions and no assessments. You learn at a comfortable pace and nobody is ever put on the spot.
What footwear is sensible for learning the waltz and foxtrot?
Smart shoes with a smooth sole that slides a little on the floor. We don’t supply shoes, so bring your own, and avoid rubber soles that stick when you turn.
When would the new ballroom class actually start?
The moment the headcount is big enough to make a proper floor. At that point we look for a hired space near the bulk of the interest and get in touch with everyone who signed up about the opening night.
Is there an upper age for joining the ballroom class?
No upper age at all. Ballroom suits adults of every age, and the pace is gentle enough to follow comfortably. Choose the right age band on the form so we know who’s interested.
