Burlesque Dance Classes in Dudley

Slow walks, sharp looks over the shoulder and a glove peel with real theatre to it. Adding your name to the list is free; when enough adults are in, we hire a room and the burlesque class begins. From there you hand over £9 per visit on the evening itself, and there’s never a plan to sign.

Clothes stay on. The confidence is what comes off the peg.

Grown-ups only, by design

A burlesque room built by its own guest list

Burlesque is about owning a room — the walk, the pause, the knowing glance — and it works best when everyone in the class starts together. So rather than advertising a night and hoping, we gather a list of adults who’d love to try it. When it’s long enough, we hire a private room and invite everyone on it to the first class.

The room matters. It needs to be somewhere you can let go without an audience wandering past, and somewhere sensible for people coming from Stourbridge, Coseley, Lye or Dudley town. Your postcode helps us choose, and adding your name costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

When the class opens, you pay £9 for each one you come to. No membership, no course fee in advance, and no auto-renewing plan hiding in your bank statement. It’s an adult class for over-18s, fully clothed, playful and warmly supportive rather than intimidating.

The Burlesque list

Just the basics — and your name is on the burlesque guest list.

Joining the interest list costs nothing; the room gets booked when the numbers add up.

Your first acts

Burlesque skills you’ll pick up

Shaped by the room, week by week

01

The strut

A slow, deliberate walk with hips and shoulders working together — the entrance that sets the whole tone.

02

Poses and pauses

Holding a shape just long enough, and learning how much a still moment can say.

03

Glove and shoulder play

Teasing gestures with gloves or a jacket sleeve, all playful suggestion and nothing more revealing.

04

Chair and floor moments

Simple, safe shapes using a chair, added once the group feels confident and warmed up.

The teacher shapes each class around the people in it, mixing technique with lots of encouragement. Short sequences come together over the weeks, but there’s no fixed show routine you’re obliged to perform, and nothing is ever done in front of anyone outside the room.

It’s a laugh as much as a lesson. People arrive a bit shy and leave standing taller. Every body type and every age over eighteen fits in, and because the whole group signed up from the same list, nobody walks into a clique of seasoned performers.

none

We don’t sell or lend feather boas, gloves, heels or costumes of any kind — comfortable clothes you can stretch in are perfect, flat shoes or low heels you’re steady in will do, and if you own a pair of long gloves you might like to bring your own for the fun of it.

Weekly · adults £9

Paid in the room on the evening, one burlesque class at a time. There’s no membership, no prepaid course and nothing that renews itself each month.

From the list

What made them sign up

I turned fifty and decided I was done feeling invisible. A class for grown-ups, starting together, sounded far less daunting than walking into an established group.

I’m not remotely a performer and I nearly didn’t go. By the end I was strutting across the room and laughing at myself. It’s done wonders for how I carry myself.

Questions before your first burlesque class

Join the list ↑
Does anybody have to undress in burlesque class?

No. Everyone stays fully clothed throughout. The class is about poise, playfulness and confidence, with teasing gestures using gloves or sleeves rather than anything revealing.

Is there a minimum age for the burlesque class?

Yes — this class is for adults aged eighteen and over. The content is tasteful, but the tone and humour are grown-up, so it isn’t suitable for younger dancers.

Do I need to be confident to try burlesque at all?

Not in the slightest. Plenty of people come precisely because they want to feel more confident. The teacher builds things up gently, and everyone starts from the same point.

Will we have to perform a burlesque routine in public?

Never. Everything happens in the hired room with just the class. There’s no show, no audience and no pressure to perform anywhere other than among the group.

What’s sensible to wear for a first burlesque session?

Comfortable clothes you can move in, plus shoes you can walk steadily in. We don’t provide costumes or accessories, so bring your own gloves or a scarf if you’d like a prop to play with.

Can I sign up to burlesque with a group of friends?

Of course. Ask each friend to add their own name so the list grows faster and we know how many are coming. It’s a great class to try together.

Are men welcome in the burlesque class too?

Yes, all adults are welcome. Burlesque has a long tradition of playful performers of every gender, and the class is about attitude and expression for everyone.

How many names does the burlesque list need before we meet?

There isn’t a magic number — just enough people to make the room feel lively and the hire worthwhile. Once we’re there, we book a private space somewhere convenient and tell everyone on the list about the opening class.
