Two left feet are welcome; most of the room will never have held a ballroom frame. Whatever gets taught is built around the group in the room.

Why Strictly works

Everyone has a favourite dance and a favourite judge

Strictly is the programme that got a nation of non-dancers arguing about heel leads and hip action from the sofa. That shared vocabulary is exactly why it makes such a good hen party dance class: everybody already knows what a cha-cha is supposed to look like, even if their feet have never tried one. The fun comes from finally having a go yourselves instead of shouting marks at the telly.

The teacher borrows the flavour of several dances rather than drilling one in depth — a snappy Latin section, a dramatic paso doble moment, a flowing ballroom walk — and builds the routine around whoever turns up. Partner work is optional, so nobody gets pushed into a hold with a near-stranger; groups can dance side by side in a line or pair off with friends. Never danced a step in your life? You’ll be in very good company.

It’s a gift for organisers juggling a wide age range, because grandmothers who grew up on ballroom telly and bridesmaids who vote every weekend meet happily in the middle. On any list of hen party ideas it sits comfortably between afternoon tea and a night out, and among hen party activities near Dudley it’s the one that tends to end with somebody holding up a homemade score card.

We run it in a room we hire near Dudley town centre, with a proper floor for turns, or the teacher can come to a venue you’ve already booked around the Black Country. Room and class are costed together on one written quote.

Why ninety suits Strictly: pairing Latin hips with ballroom posture means switching styles mid-routine, and the longer session gives time to practise those changeovers until they look smooth rather than rushed.

Ninety minutes £190

Cha-cha, paso and a showdance for the whole cast — the venue’s fee goes on top, all in one written figure.

Floor-fillers to inspire your five

Borrow from these or ignore them entirely. What we need from you is a top five, ranked by preference, and your instructor will choose one of those songs before the class and shape the showdance to suit it, whether it leans cha-cha, paso or ballroom. A track the bride adored on the show deserves a high spot on your list.

How songs work: once you’ve booked, send us your top five songs in order of preference, and your instructor picks one from your list before the class.

Your Dudley day

Strictly on a Dudley Saturday

A mid-afternoon start leaves the morning free for nails, hair or a wander up towards the castle, and the evening open for dinner locally or the short hop into Birmingham. Sequins and fringe are welcome if your group fancies them — they come out of your own wardrobes — though comfy shoes you can turn in matter far more than glitter.

Guests coming in from Wordsley, Pensnett, Oldbury or further out? Tell us on the form and we’ll pick a time that doesn’t leave anyone sprinting from the station. The hen do dance class fee is the same for eight guests or thirty, and a larger dance hen party can split into two ‘couples’ teams for a friendly dance-off before the showdance.

Scores from the judges

Mum has watched every series and she was in heaven. The teacher even did a little judges’ bit at the end and gave the bride a ten.

We had women from twenty-five to seventy and nobody got left behind. Choosing the ninety minutes was the right call; the paso section needed it.

I expected cheesy and got properly taught. Our cha-cha actually looked like a cha-cha by the end.

Strictly questions, answered

Call 07851 966372
Do we need to dance in couples for a Strictly class?

No. The routine works just as well with everyone side by side, and any partner moves are optional. If friends want to pair up for a spin or two, the teacher will happily show them how.

Which Strictly dances might the class borrow from?

Usually a taste of several dances rather than one in depth — perhaps a cha-cha section, a paso moment and a ballroom sway, all set to the one song your instructor has chosen from your top five. The teacher shapes those steps once they see how your group moves.

Can we bring our own score paddles and glitter?

Absolutely. Homemade paddles, sequins and a mirrorball keyring all add to the fun. Just remember they come from you — we don’t provide props or outfits.

What shoes work best for Strictly-style turns and spins?

Something with a smooth sole you can pivot in: flat dance shoes, low heels you’re comfortable in, or trainers that aren’t too grippy. Skyscraper heels tend to come off within ten minutes.

How is the Strictly showdance session priced for us?

For the whole group, the venue cost is added to a flat £190 for ninety minutes, or to £165 if you’d rather have sixty. Both land on one written quote, and nobody is charged individually.

Is a Strictly class a good fit for mixed ages?

It’s one of the best. Every move has a simpler version, the pace is set by the room, and older guests who grew up with ballroom on the telly often surprise everyone.
