Planned for adults from the start — not a spare slot after the kids go home.
Street dance, grown-up pace
There’s street dance in Dudley already, but most of it lives inside children’s dance schools, with perhaps one adult slot tacked onto the end of a packed timetable. That’s great for kids and not always inviting if you’re thirty-five and nervous. This class is planned the other way round: adults are the whole point, and the pace is set for people starting from scratch or coming back after years away.
Rather than fix a slot and hope, we collect names first. Your sign-up tells us the style you’re after, roughly where you live and your age range. When there’s a healthy crowd wanting street dance, we book a room placed to suit most of the list and let everyone know the details.
After that it’s refreshingly simple: £9 paid on the night, no membership, no term fees and no uniform. Come along every week or dip in when shifts allow — the class doesn’t penalise you for having a life outside it.
The foundations you’ll groove on
Shaped by the room, week by week
Bounce and rock
The relaxed up-and-down and forward-and-back grooves that sit underneath almost every street style.
Party footwork
Old favourites like the running man and the Roger Rabbit, slowed right down so your feet can catch up with your brain.
Isolations
Moving chest, shoulders or head on their own while everything else stays calm — fiddly at first, very satisfying once it lands.
Short combos
Stringing moves into a brief piece of choreography, then dancing it to the track at full speed.
Street dance covers a lot of ground — hip-hop grooves, house footwork, a dash of popping and locking — and the teacher dips into whichever suits the room. Early on, the emphasis is on feeling the music rather than nailing tricks. Nobody is spinning on their head in week one.
Sessions often build towards a short combination you can film at the end if you’d like. Over the weeks you’ll notice your bounce loosening and your timing sharpening, even on tracks you’ve never heard before.

Why adults signed up
Every class I found round here was really meant for kids. Being in a room of adults all as clueless as me took the pressure right off.
I danced at school and stopped at sixteen. Twenty years later my body remembered far more than I expected it to.
Is this street dance class aimed at kids or grown-ups?
Grown-ups first. The pace, music and atmosphere are designed for adult beginners. If you’re registering a younger dancer’s interest, select their age range on the form.
Is street dance just another name for hip-hop, or broader?
Hip-hop is one strand of street dance. This class draws on hip-hop grooves plus house footwork and a little popping, so you get a taste of several styles at once.
Will I be expected to try breaking or floor spins?
No. The focus is standing grooves, footwork and choreography. Floor tricks aren’t part of the beginner class.
How quickly will I pick up street dance choreography?
Everyone’s different, but most people feel noticeably more at ease after a handful of sessions. The teacher breaks moves into small chunks and repeats them often.
Can I wear jeans to a street dance session?
You can, though stretchy trousers or joggers make squatting and bouncing easier. Trainers are best — we don’t supply any kit, so wear what you have.
Which tracks does the teacher lean on for Dudley street sessions?
Hip-hop, R&B, grime, house and chart tracks with a strong beat. The teacher chooses on the night, and requests are always considered.
How long until enough names open the street dance class?
It depends how fast the list grows. Sharing the page with friends who’ve mentioned wanting to try it genuinely brings the first night closer.
Does it matter which town near Dudley I live in?
Not at all — the postcode helps us choose a room that’s fair for the most people, whether they’re coming from Tipton, Lye or Wall Heath.
